Department-Based Aid and Scholarships
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is currently offering two categories of scholarships:
- For incoming, admitted freshmen or transfer students who have declared Materials Science and Engineering as their major; and
- For current University of Maryland students who have declared Materials Science and Engineering as their major.
For incoming, admitted freshmen or transfer students who have declared Materials Science and Engineering as their major, we offer two scholarships:
$1000 MSE Faculty Merit Scholarships
Applicants for the fall semester who are admitted to the University of Maryland and select Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) as their major are eligible for a $1K MSE Faculty Merit Scholarship. This scholarship is only available to incoming freshmen majoring in Materials Science and Engineering. Scholarship recipients will be required to register for ENMA 181 and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year if the student maintains a 3.8 grade point average and remains a materials science and engineering major at the University.

$2000 MSE Top Terp Department Scholarships
We are offering a number Top Terp Scholarships exclusively to highly qualified attendees of a Department of Materials Science and Engineering Open House. In addition to attending a MSE Open House, the student must be enrolled in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland with materials science and engineering (MSE) as their declared major for the fall semester, and take ENMA 181 during the fall semester. The funds will be transferred to his or her student account when he or she arrives on campus. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year if the student maintains a 3.8 grade point average and remains a materials science and engineering major at the University.
The MSE Top Terp Scholarship is independent from University scholarship awards and requires an application to the Department, which is made available shortly before, during, and for a short time after an MSE Open House.

For current University of Maryland students who have declared Materials Science and Engineering as their major

Current students who declare MSE as their major are eligible to apply for a MSE First Year Scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be required to register for ENMA 181 and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year if the student maintains a 3.8 grade point average and remains a materials science and engineering major at the University.

The A. James Clark School of Engineering offers engineering scholarships to talented undergraduates (including transfer and returning students) enrolled at the School. Students may also apply for Federal financial aid. To learn more, please visit:
