The Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology (JVST) recently named Department of Materials Science and Engineering Professor Gottlieb Oehrlein one of its most valuable reviewers.

JVST, the official publication of the AVS Science and Technology Society, recognizes the work of professionals in the technology industry with each of its six annual editions. The publication covers original research, professional work, articles and scientific understandings.

Prior to joining the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland in 2000, Professor Oehrlein was a member of the Department of Physics faculty at the State University of New York–Albany from 1993 to 2000, and a research staff member in IBM's Division of Research at the T.J. Watson Research Center, in Yorktown Heights, NY.

Currently at the university, Oehrlein leads the Laboratory for Plasma Processing of Materials, part of the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics. The lab's major scientific themes are the characterization and understanding of the processes at the plasma-material interface that control the properties of the material or structure that is ultimately produced.
