Advanced Materials for Sustainability
Abstract: To foster a sustainable society, there is an immediate and pressing need for the widespread adoption of energy-efficient devices that operate through environmentally friendly processes. Materials design assumes a pivotal role in this endeavor, enabling the development and optimization of these innovative solutions. This talk will summarize the latest endeavors in designing, synthesizing, and characterizing advanced materials with high specific surface areas, tunable porosity, and excellent conductivity to significantly enhance device performance in various domains, including water treatment, public health, and energy. Embracing these advancements will dramatically help us build a more sustainable and resilient world for generations to come.
Bio: Pei Dong is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She obtained her B.S. in Microelectronics from Nankai University and her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University. She then did her postdoctoral research in the Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University before joining Mason. She is the recipient of the Franz and Frances Brotzen Fellowship Award, Best Thesis Award, Rising Star of Science Award, and Materials Today Energy Promising Early Career Scientists Award. Her current research interests include the design and synthesis of advanced materials, as well as their applications in energy, water, and biomedical areas.
