Graduate research assistantships typically support qualified Ph.D. students. Graduate fellowships are available on a competitive basis to both entering and continuing Ph.D. students. Typically only those Ph.D. students who enter the program in the Fall semester are eligible for fellowships. If you are admitted and enrolled in the Fall semester, it is an expectation that a first year student will receive financial support from the department during the first semester. In the second semester of the first year (and future semesters), a student will join a group and receive financial support from a faculty advisor.
If you are applying in a Spring semester, you will need written documentation from faculty members stating he/she will provide you with funding starting in that spring term. Once you apply to the program, you should contact faculty members you are interested in. Financial support is contingent upon acceptance into a faculty member’s research group and is subject to continued availability of faculty funds.
We offer fee waivers on a first come first serve for fall Ph.D applications. Funding varies by year to year and is contingent. You can contact the department to inquire about fee waivers for the year you are applying.
We are unable to provide financial support to students in our masters degree program, or to students in the M.Eng or Certificate programs.
