MatES is UMD's Materials Advantage Student Chapter of The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS), and is recognized by other professional societies including ASM International and the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). MatES hosts social, service, technical, and career development activities throughout the school year designed to engage students with hands-on MSE topics and expose students to various career paths in the field.
