Banerjee to Attend ICMR Winter School

MSE graduate student Parag Banerjee, advised by Professor Gary Rubloff, has been selected to attend the 2008 International Center for Materials Research (ICMR) Winter School at the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research in Bangalore, India this December. The competitive fellowship includes a full travel grant and expenses for the weeklong program.

The goal of this year's Winter School is to connect young researchers with leading scientists working in the fields of complex organic and inorganic materials. Particular emphasis will be given to new carbon based materials and functional oxides used in energy generation and storage, including the latest solar cells and batteries.

Banerjee, who works in the Laboratory for Advanced Materials Processing, is exploring the manufacture of energy harvesting and energy storage devices using conventional semiconductor processes, and self-assembled techniques for nano-fabrication. "My research group is planning to move into solar cell research so this topic is especially interesting to us," he explains. "I thought attending the Winter School would be a good opportunity to get a jump start on things."
